What Does a Truly Employee-Centric GCC Workplace Look Like?

What Does a Truly Employee-Centric GCC Workplace Look Like?

India’s global capability centers (GCCs) are not just back-office engines anymore. Today they are strategic command centers for global businesses and the competition for talent in these hubs is as intense as it gets. The real question for the leaders is not “Should we focus on the workplace investment?”. It is “What does a truly employee-centric GCC workplace look like in practice and it translates into retention, productivity and employer brand?”

Here is our perspective.

What is an employee-centric GCC workplace?

When we talk about an employee-centric GCC workplace, we are looking at a space built around real people, not just around desks and Wi-Fi. It typically includes:

  • Purposeful physical design that helps people focus, collaborate and have informal interaction in equal measure.
  • Workplace food services that reflect today’s employee diversity and dietary needs, not just a canteen with a menu.
  • Wellbeing infrastructure, from ergonomic setups, easy access to mental health support, built into daily routines, not offered as an afterthought.
  • Smart workplace tools that take the friction out of the day, from seamless facility access to simple IT fixes.
  • Integrated facility management services that work so smoothly, employees barely notice because things simply work.

This is what modern GCC workplace design stands for in 2026: creating a workplace experience that feels more like an ecosystem than a set of cubicles.

The business case: Why employee-centric GCC workplaces matter in India.

The numbers make the urgency clear.

  • India added close to 50 new GCCs in just the first half of 2025 and it is widely described as the GCC capital of the world.
  • The GCC workforce grew from 1.9 million in 2024 to around 2.36 million by 2025, a scale that makes GCC one of India’s largest formal employment engines.
  • In 2025, Bengaluru alone accounted for 32% of the total office area absorbed by GCCs, with Hyderabad at 19%, while NCR rocketed from 18% in 2024 to 45% in 2025. This emphasises that where and how GCCs build their workplaces is a live, fast-moving strategy question.
  • 94% of surveyed companies now prefer employees to work from the office at least 3 days a week and 85% of domestic firms plan to expand their office footprint over the next 2 years. Meaning the physical workplace is back at the center of workforce strategy.

What does employee experience in GCCs actually look like today?

The good news is that GCCs are already setting a strong baseline.

But a closer look at the research flags real gaps: Employees report low satisfaction around fair pay, management approachability, clarity of vision and involvement in decisions. In other words, GCCs have nailed comfortable inclusive spaces. The next frontier is trust, transparency and a workplace experience that reflects it.

What does a future-ready GCC workplace look like?

Based on where the market is heading, a future-ready GCC workplace typically combines:

  • Smart workplace tech – Think sensors to track occupancy, app-led food ordering and predictive facility management that anticipates issues instead of reacting to complaints
  • True wellbeing infrastructure – Quiet zones, nutrition-linked dining programs and on-site health support built into the daily experience, not positioned as a perk
  • Hyper-local flexible dining, recognising India’s regional food diversity across a workforce that’s increasingly spread across metros and emerging Tier-2 hubs.
  • Facility management that is invisible. When things just work, employees focus on the job not the logistics.

How can GCC attract and retain talent through workforce design and workplace design?
  • Treat the workplace as a retention lever, not just another line item on the real estate budget.
  • Invest in workplace dining and well-being as measurable drivers of daily employee sentiment, not soft benefits.
  • Build real feedback loops so employee needs shape the workplace decisions, closing the trust gaps that data reveals.
  • Partner with specialists in dining facilities and GCC workplace experience, moving beyond generic vendor contracts.

The road ahead

The GCCs that define India’s next growth chapter would not be the ones with the biggest campuses. They will be the ones that treat the workplace as strategy not overhead. Real estate, smart workplace solutions, food, and employee well-being are the daily touchpoints that decide whether talent stays or thrives.

If you want an employee-centric GCC workplace that is future-ready, focus on whether people genuinely want to walk in every morning. As competition for skilled talent intensifies, that should be the real benchmark.
